Artist Statement…
I create wheel thrown and hand built pottery intended to delight the soul with beauty and service. Verdant green, cranberry red, teal, metallic copper, and gold are some of the colors I use. My intention often is to create functional pots with an essence of the botanical nature. The ordered patterns and graceful liveliness of botanical forms serve as inspiration for my work. The botanical artistry of the Creator has always captivated me. After years of gardening and observation during nature walks I began to draw from the images of what I had seen.
By altering forms wet, carving, and brushing slip to create relief, I strive to make pots that engage the user visually, emotionally, as well as encourage tactile exploration. After years of potting exclusively with porcelain, I have included iron bearing stoneware clay in my studio and find its earthy qualities exciting. I’m discovering how to make new forms and use new techniques that are rich in texture and color.
Working with clay for over 35 years, I continue to be pleased and honored to see my work bring joy, beauty, and service to people’s lives.
