ABOUT RICHARD…

Richard Vincent lives and works at his home studio in North Branch, Minnesota. His work is best known for the botanical inspired pieces he creates with porcelain and stoneware clay. Starting with a wheel thrown piece and then altering the form immediately or carving when leather hard, and often brushing slip for relief, he creates functional vessels that reference leaves or blossoms.  His vases and bowls can stand alone as decorative pieces to beautify your home, used to hold a seasonal bouquet, or serve a favorite dish for a special occasion with grace.

Richard says “I first discovered my talent for forming pots as a child in my backyard with friends after a summer rain.  Playing in the mud I was delighted I could form bowls.  During high school in White Bear Lake, MN I was introduced to the potter’s wheel and was hooked for life.”  Richard continued his ceramic studies at Lakewood Community College, White Bear Lake, MN and in 1979 he began working as a studio potter.

Through the years he has shown his work at Fine Art juried shows, sold to select galleries, and is a host potter at his North Branch studio during the St Croix Valley Pottery Tour and is a demonstrating artist during the Wisconsin Fall Art Tour at Byers studio in Rock Springs, WI.

ARTIST STATEMENT…

I create wheel thrown and hand built pottery intended to delight the soul with beauty and service. Verdant green, cranberry red, teal, metallic copper, and gold are some of the colors I glaze my vases, planters, and tableware.

I find inspiration from botanical forms, patterns, textures, and colors seen in nature. By altering forms wet, carving, and brushing slip to create relief, I strive to make pots that engage the user visually, emotionally, as well as encourage tactile exploration. After years of potting exclusively with porcelain, I have included iron bearing stoneware clay in my studio and find it’s earthy quality exciting. Working with clay for over 35 years I continue to be pleased and honored to see my work bring joy, beauty, and service to people’s lives.
